Hey, Scorpions
Your stuff. What we're working on, your skill cards, the schedule, and some fun.
This week
What we're working on
Your feet. Lots of touches. Toe taps. Sole rolls. Cone weaves. The more time you spend with the ball, the more it starts to feel easy.
Your spot. Every position has a name and a job. By Saturday you should be able to say your position out loud and point to where you live on the field.
Your first touch. When the ball comes to you, your first touch should push it where you want to go. Almost always: forward.
Saturday focus
- First touch up the field, not back to your own goal.
- Pass when you see a teammate open.
- Take the shot when you see the goal.
Fun stuff to try
The juggle challenge
How many times can you juggle a soccer ball without it touching the ground? Use your feet, knees, head, anything but your hands. Try every day. Tell Coach Chip your record on Saturday.
The toe-tap challenge
60 seconds. Light, fast taps, alternating feet. Count them. Try to beat your number tomorrow. Most kids can hit 100. Some can hit 200.
Wall passes
Find a wall. Stand 5 yards back. Pass the ball at the wall with the inside of your foot. Take the rebound with your other foot, then pass again. How many can you do without losing control? See if you can get to 50.
Watch some soccer
Watch any pro game on TV or YouTube. Premier League, MLS, women's USA, doesn't matter. Pick one player. Watch what they do without the ball. You'll see things you've never noticed before.
Your team
Coach Chip, Coach Adam, Coach Patrick. Nine players: Kylen, Landon, Oliver, Leif, Gabriel, Oren, Declan, Jacob, Kason.
You're the Scorpions.
